How to buy and use
- iPhone X or later / Apple Watch Series 3 or later: download 'Octopus App for Tourists', sign in with Apple ID and add a new Octopus.
- Top up with a non-Hong Kong issued Mastercard, Visa or UnionPay (via Apple Pay), e-CNY or Weixin Pay.
- Hold the top of the phone near the reader — no need to unlock.
- Refund the deposit and balance in the app before you leave.
Good to know
- Currency selection in the tourist app is one-off and cannot be changed later.
- Tourist Octopus becomes inactive after long non-use; it can be reactivated.
