Taiwan eSIM guide: networks, coverage and setup
Taiwan's three networks give fast 4G/5G across the western plains and cities. Local SIMs need two forms of ID.

Local networks
- Chunghwa TelecomLargest operator, widest coverage including mountains and outlying islands.
- Taiwan MobileNationwide network, strong in cities.
- Far EasToneNationwide network; absorbed Asia Pacific Telecom in 2023.
5G5G is available in Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung and most urban areas on all three networks.
Must-knows
- Airport SIM packages often bundle an EasyCard for MRT and buses.
- Google, KakaoTalk and LINE work normally in Taiwan.
Buying a local SIM
Tourist SIMs are sold at Taoyuan and Kaohsiung airports. Real-name rules require a passport plus a second ID (e.g. driving licence or entry record); you must be 18 or older.
Weak-signal areas
Cities and the west coast are well covered. Signal can drop on mountain roads and trails in the Central Mountain Range (e.g. Taroko, Alishan, Hehuanshan).
