Buying a local SIM
Under MCMC rules in force from 2026, foreigners register prepaid SIMs with a passport and facial verification, are limited to two prepaid SIMs per operator, and tourist SIMs stay active for up to three months.
Weak-signal areas
Good in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Malacca and Johor Bahru. Sabah and Sarawak interiors (Borneo), highlands and small islands can be weak.
