Must-knows

  • Normal holidays never reach the 120-day limit; it matters for long stays.
  • Cappadocia, Pamukkale and the coast are generally covered; check offline maps for remote eastern areas.

Buying a local SIM

SIMs are sold at operator stores (including at Istanbul airport) with a passport. A foreign phone can use a Turkish SIM or roam for up to 120 days; after that the IMEI is blocked unless registered for a fee.

Weak-signal areas

Good in Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir and main tourist areas. Rural eastern Anatolia and mountain roads can be weaker.

How much data do you need?

Per day 620 MB

Pick a plan of about 3.6 GB
