Local networks

5G5G is available in major cities (Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cancún and others) on Telcel and AT&T.

Must-knows

• Many US plans include Mexico; if you travel both countries, check a combined North America plan.
• Uber and DiDi work in major cities and need data.

Buying a local SIM

Prepaid SIMs are sold at operator stores, OXXO and airports. Under CRT rules, carriers must link each line to a verified holder; foreign visitors register with a passport through the operator's app or store. Unregistered lines can be suspended.

Weak-signal areas

Good in cities and resort areas (Cancún, Playa del Carmen). Cenotes, jungle areas of the Yucatán, mountains and rural highways can be weak.
